關於凱利公式的傳奇小故事有很多，其中最被人熟知的就是，斜槓(不務正業?)的愛德華·索普(據説28歲就任麻省理工教授)利用凱利公式玩PP8821點PP88遊戲，和一個職業賭徒合作用一個周末的時間就贏了11000美元(以金價計算相當於今天約50萬美元)，之後他還把自己的研究和經歷寫成了暢銷書，人一出名就被所有PP88賭場封禁了。

失去”必贏”副業後的他又轉戰華爾街，利用量化套利股票期權，從1968年到1988年，其管理的對衝基金淨值上漲了14.5倍，同期標普500隻上漲了5倍，凱利公式也隨之聲名遠揚。加之,流傳巴菲特和格羅斯都曾使用凱利公式來投資，增加了其神奇性。

從如下簡化版的凱利公式上看，其實就是

兩個隱藏的推論

：第一個是只有

其中：f為資金佔比，即此筆投資佔總資金的最佳佔比(或稱資金倉位)p 為勝率。所選標的上漲概率(達到目標價或止盈價的概率)rl為虧損率rloss，即虧損比率(或稱止損的虧損率)q 為敗率，即1-p(碰到止損價的概率)rw為盈利率rwin，或稱目標·期望收益率。

比如：對一隻股票投資，根據過往策略勝率是60%，止損線設在5%，敗率40%(1-60%)，目標收益率20%。那麼，f=60%÷5%-40%÷20%=12-2=1000%，意味着投資收益優秀，甚至可加槓桿投資。如果f<=0或是負值，意味着即便有賺錢可能性，但如果這種投資長期下去必將虧光本金，不建議投資(當然，在可做空市場上可以反向操作)。如果想讓資金髮揮效能，主要就是
